BAodn Action Learning Groups
BAodn members committed to working on their own development as OD practitioners can take advantage of our Action Learning Group (ALG) program.
Action Learning is a powerful professional development method which leverages real work experience and real-time coaching. The focus of Action Learning is on action and reflection around current OD challenges facing the participants. The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity for OD practitioners to reflect on how they are going about their work challenges; to act in new and different ways and to assimilate new learning. The group works on difficult, responsible, challenging issues and problems which connect the participant, as a person and as a practitioner, to the work they do. The benefits of this approach include best practice sharing, networking and peer assistance. Each participant is offered space and time as a “client” to present their issue/challenge/problem to the rest of the group. The other group members act as consultants to the client by asking them a series of questions to help them examine and reflect on the approach they are taking regarding their issue. ALG’s typically meet 6-8 times over the course of a year for sessions of 3-4 hours each. BAodn currently has two groups running, one in the East Bay and the other in San Francisco. We are in the process of launching a new group at the time of this posting.
If you are an experienced OD practitioner with an interest in large scale systemic change and would like to know more about forming, leading or joining a group then please contact our ALG
Program Cordinator.
We anticipate forming more Action Learning Groups in future.
We've also posted ALG support materials including core principles and guidance notes for forming a groups, available to BAodn members.
We look forward to promoting and sharing in your growth as an OD practitioner.
Resources
In an effort to advance the theory and practice of organization development, we are in the process of adding resources to the site. You may want to look below at the section entitled BAodn Vision Action Journal. All sixty nine of the issues of the journal (Winter 1993 was never published), published by past editorial teams of BAodn members, appear there: Winter 1998 was the last issue published. The journals are repositories of information about what OD is, some of its history, and ways to succeed as an OD professional: use and enjoy. You may also want to view the BAodn E-Letters. They are written and published by current members, contain articles of note about the field of OD, recent BAodn activities -- replete with photographs, and information about our organization. Visit here often for we continue to post more members' (past and present) contributions in this resource library.
